BoxingScene.com was advised by promoter Lou DiBella that unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto will be an interested party in the outcomes of two key fights in the next two days. It's become obvious to DiBella that his boxer will not land a fight with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on April 16 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Berto is one of three fighters being considered to face Pacquiao on the April date. Shane Mosley is the frontrunner to land the fight and Juan Manuel Marquez would be the secondary option.
Later tonight, hard-punching Randall Bailey will face Said Ouali in a final IBF welterweight elminator at the Lotto Arena in Merksem, Belgium. On Saturday night, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan will defend his title against Marcos Maidana at the MGM Grand. Both Khan and Maidana have expressed interest in moving to the welterweight division in the near future.
"With Pacquiao and Mosley fighting each other, it takes away our two preferred opponents. Team Berto will be looking at two fights. Randall Bailey will be involved in a welterweight eliminator in Belgium. Randall is one of the best pure punchers in boxing. A fight with Berto would be exciting. And Team Berto will watching Saturday's fight between Khan and Maidana. Berto fighting either Khan or Maidana would be a great fight," DiBella told BoxingScene.com.
