The WBC announced that promoter Lou DiBella beat out Don King with the winning purse bid of $675,000 to King's $427,000, for the rights to WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto vs. mandatory challenger Luis Collazo. The fight is slated for January 17, 2009 with HBO televising. There is some talk that of the fight also taking place on January 31.
There has been some issues with Collazo over the money. He is said to be requesting a bigger purse. Under the winning bid and Berto receiving 70% or 472,500, Collazo would receive 202,500.
