Purse bids for George Groves versus Kenny Anderson for the British super-middleweight title were due today at noon, bringing the rematch Kenny has craved a step closer. Groves was floored against Anderson in a Commonwealth title defence in November before prevailing courtesy of a sixth round stoppage, with both men citing a lack of preparation time as a key factor in the story of the fight.
Now, though, Anderson looks set to get a chance to take his revenge, the Edinburgh man is waiting on news of whether he faces a home or away assignment and is chomping at the bit.
“I am not going to say the fighter was scared but there are a lot of people involved in putting on a fight," said Anderson when speaking to the Daily Record. "It’s not the boxer who make the fights. He got a close call with me and got a lot of criticism – he probably wouldn’t be keen to fight me again. His manager Adam Booth didn’t want him to fight me and the men behind him wouldn’t have wanted it either.”
Groves picked up the British crown by decisioning James DeGale in May, he has since defended the two belts with a KO win over Paul Smith on November 5th. Anderson is on a run of three wins and believes his hard work with trainer Kevin Maree will result in big victories during 2012, with the Groves rematch just the beginning in the eyes of 'The Widowmaker'.
