The fight is now off. Last week, promoter Hector Garcia of HG Boxing announced to the Mexican press that Ana Maria "The Warrior" Torres (28-3-1, 16KOs), the current WBC super flyweight champion, was going to move up in weight by two divisions to face WBC super bantamweight queen Alicia Ashley (18-9-1, 1KO) in the month of June. The tentative date was June 2.
Beyond the promoter's control, the fight is now canceled. Torres revealed that she is pregnant. And Ashley, who was training hard, is obviously very disappointed.
"I was so up for this fight and had a month of training under my belt already. I was so anxious for June to arrive, only to hear this news now that she is pregnant," Ashley told The Gleaner.
"Since there is nothing I can do about it, I have to wait now for my manager to find me another opponent," she added.
