Czar Amonsot’s promising career has taken a nosedive after the flashy WBO Asia Pacific junior lightweight champion was thrown out of the ALA Gym some weeks ago when he was caught drinking and smoking. Amonsot lost his title on the scales when he came in at 135 pounds, five pounds over the limit for his title showdown at the Island City Mall Car Park in Tagbilaran City, Saturday.
Amonsot proved to be a bitter disappointment to boxing fans in his hometown of Tagbilaran City and was knocked out at 0:47 of the very first round when Butar Butar who came in at a trim 128 pounds nailed the lanky southpaw with a cracking right to the jaw sending him sprawling on the canvas. Amonsot struggled to beat the count but was in no shape to continue as he staggered across the ring and referee Bruce McTavish called a halt.
Amonsot charged out of his corner and hurt Butar Butar in the opening seconds of the fight but then left himself wide open and was nailed by a vicious right that ended the fight. Amonsot’s mother who was hysterical and rushed to the corner had to be led away.
It was a painful and pathetic sight as one of the country’s most promising young fighters who was given several breaks by his former benefactor Tony Aldeguer including fights against worthy opponents in the boxing capital of Las Vegas, threw it all away.
Aldeguer, whose care and concern for his fighters is matched by his demands for discipline, integrity and dedication didn’t allow Amonsot to wear the famous ALA Gym boxing shorts and outfit since he had fired the former WBO Asia Pacific champion from his stable. Amonost’s behavior and his eventual defeat were also a major disappointment to well-known sportsman, Mayor Dan Neri Lim who had also contributed in building up the career of the hometown boy.
