Flashy southpaw Cesar Amonsot, the Philippines No.1 ranked super featherweight faces a tough task when he goes after the WBO Asia Pacific title against Indonesia’s undefeated Victor Mausul in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on November 19.
In a blockbuster fight card headlined by the battle between the newest Filipino ring sensation Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista who defends his WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title against Tanzania’s KO artist Obote Ameme, Amonsot will have to be at his best if he hopes to give his hometown fans something to cheer about.
The 20 year old Amonsot is coming off a stunning first round knockout win over Ricardo Cabillo last July 30 after a hard-fought majority decision over Jun Paderna on June 11.
Amonsot has an excellent record against Indonesian fighters having scored a unanimous decision over Leed Shabu in the RCTI television studios in Jakarta on May 14 after a smashing fourth round TKO victory over Syamsul Hidayat at the same venue on April 12. Amonsot has a ring record of 12-1-1 with 9 knockouts but although he has been impressive against Indonesian opponents in the past, Mausul poses a much bigger threat.
An orthodox fighter, Mausul won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title with a unanimous twelve round decision over undefeated Pratet Sor Thanikul of Thailand last April 21. He had previously won the Indonesian title with a twelve round decision over Ibrahim Aroby in September last year.
Mausul has a ring record of 8-0-1 with 4 knockouts and is regarded as an accomplished fighter who is trained by Pino Bahari, regarded as one of the best trainers in Indonesia.
Mausul is scheduled to arrive in Manila on Monday some hours after the arrival of Ameme. The two fighters accompanied by well known Cebu promoter Sammy Gello-ani will leave for Cebu on Tuesday and then take the very pleasant ferry ride to Tagbilaran City where they will pay a courtesy call on Mayor Dan Neri Lim, the sportsman who has worked hard to bring the double championship card to the province of Bohol with the help and support of Governor Erico Aumentado.
The fights will be telecast on Viva Sports top-rated weekly boxing show "The Main Event" at 1:00 p.m. on RPN 9 on November 20, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum and PLDT- Smart, the Philippines pre-eminent telecommunications company.
