WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Czar Amonsot faces a tough battle when he clashes with Thailand’s hard-hitting Decho Bankluaygym on the blockbuster fight card at the Mandaue Sports and Cultural Complex on March 18.
The main event features OPBF super flyweight No.1 and WBO No. 4 ranked Z “The Dream” Gorres against former champion Waengpetch Chuwatana, for the vacant OPBF title.
The Gorres and Amonsot fights will be telecast on the top-rated Viva Sports weekly boxing show “The Main Event” at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 over RPN 9, sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum.
Both Gorres and Amonsot are coming off impressive victories against rugged Mexican opponents at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on February 3. Gorres put on an exhibition of superior skills in whipping Jose Alfredo Tirado over ten rounds while Amonost had a harder time in scoring an eight round decision over lightweight Christian Favela in Amonsot’s US debut.
Determined to hone his skills and to test him against quality opponents, Amonsot’s manager, respected Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer through well-known promoter Sammy Gello-ani picked Decho. The Thai slugger gave Australian Gary St. Clair a hard fight before losing in a twelve round encounter for the vacant WBO Inter-continental featherweight title on August 27, 2004 and is coming .off a first round knockout of Patompol Phosuwangym last December 27.
Decho has a record of 14 KO’s in 20 wins with five losses and one draw. Amonsot on the other hand has a record of 14-1-1 with 10 knockouts. Both fighters are just 20 years old.
Former two division world champion and outstanding trainer Buddy McGirt who trained Gorres for some months in Florida predicted Gorres would become a future world champion.
The flashy southpaw has a record of 22-1-1 with 12 knockouts while Chuwatana has a record of 23-6-2 with 14 knockouts and is coming off a first round KO victory over Petchnamnung Sor Tiebkoon.
