Amir Khan vs. Derrick Gainer in The Works For Sept. 6

Sources close to the situation have informed BoxingScene.com that a potential lightweight showdown between Commonwealth champion Amir Khan (18-0, 14KOs) and former champion Derrick Gainer (41-7, 24KOs) is in the works for September 6 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.

An offer had previously been made to Gainer, but he declined due to his obligation to fight on the undercard of Roy Jones Jr. vs. Joe Calzaghe on September 20. After the September show was postponed to November 8, negotiations resumed for a Khan-Gainer encounter and talks are said to be progressing nicely.

People seem to be forgetting that he's a Frank Warren fighter. Amir don't get no say in who he faces, remember that!

Absolute joke of a fight if it comes off, Gainer has fought 3 times since 2003 and he's another career FW. I object to this rationale that its the fault of FW and not the boxer, Khan could have quite easily demanded a better fight. Doesn't matter though, the fanboys will still come to fill the coffers.

Agree but no-one forced Khan to sign a new contract with Warren just recently? He's with Warren by choice and he knows how Warren operates. I m not sure he realises how Warren operates to be honest... Khan seems to genuinely believe that he is fighting good solid fighters, did u hear him after his last fight?? He mentioned something about Gomez being world class and a big LW........lol Hes deluded, Khan and his camp seem to have been totally taken in by Warren and all the crap that comes out of his mouth, and as a result Khan is a cocky big headed tool that looks stupid to real boxing fans!!

i agree with everyones comments but i almost feel bad for khan, he gets all the flack for not fighting top competition, but tis warrent who makes the fights, but khan gets all the grief, warren needs to man up and give khan a real challenge, if he loses he loses it might make him a better fighter if he did lose...especially if it was with top competition and someone who can really bang! I thought Khan was meant to be fighting Yuri Romanov or at least Gavin Rees next!!! This is a piss take!!! When Amir Khan faces a lightweight who can bang he will be KO'd in the early rounds. I honestly believe that. Micheal Katsidis would literally murder Amir Khan!!!!!!
