Former world champion Amir Khan has come under fire for an old tweet from 2012, when a fan asked him about whether or not he would entertain the idea of appearing on the popular reality show - "I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!"
Back then, Khan rejected the idea and said the show was for "has-beens."
The Bolton boxer had a change of heart, as he is now part of the show.
The sports star, 30, is among the 10 celebrities heading into the Australian jungle for the new series, which began on Sunday.
Khan is now regretting the tweet that was made nearly six years ago - but fans of the show have been slamming him on social media when the old tweet began to circulate.
Khan has been inactive from boxing since May of 2016, when he moved up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge then WBC middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez.
In what was the very first boxing event to take place at Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, Khan got off to a good start but he was knocked out cold in the sixth round.
Several planned return dates have been pushed back since that loss. A date in February is now being explored, according to Khan.
In a recent interview, Khan explained why he agreed to join the reality show.
“I’ve been in boxing for a long time. And I’ve got a fight next year but I wanted to give this a go. It’s very different to boxing and obviously I am not going to be punched in the face whilst I do this. I am most looking forward to getting away from the world and from everything, not having a phone, spending time with myself and getting to know some new people," Khan said.
"It will also be nice to be able to say to my children, ‘I did that’. That said, this is going to be harder than facing an opponent in a boxing match because it is out of my comfort zone. Boxing is something I have always done whereas this is going to be difficult. I’ve not done anything like this before and I don’t know what to expect. With the sport I am in, I do need to be confident. Boxing has made me accept all challenges, to never give up and never be scared.
“I do think that, in the jungle, that is going to help.”
