Former world champion Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) is not buying the widespread hype - regarding the possibility of Floyd Mayweather making his debut in mixed martial arts.

Mayweather, 40-years-old, retired from the sport last August after stopping UFC superstar Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their highly lucrative boxing match at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The win raised Mayweather's undefeated record to a perfect 50-0. It was Mayweather's first ring appearance in two years.

But in the last few weeks, Mayweather has taken to social media to post numerous hints that he's entertaining the idea of crossing over to the UFC for a rematch with McGregor.

Among the items posted, saw Mayweather wearing MMA-style gloves with his TMT [The Money Team] branding, entering an MMA cage in several videos, and he even reignited his war of words with McGregor by posting a manipulated photo that showed him landing an elbow to face of the UFC star.

Mayweather also conducted interviews where he disclosed that the UFC approached him with a nine-figure deal to do a fight in the octagon.

UFC President Dana White is not ruling out the possibility of Mayweather crossing over.

But most experts, including Khan, find that possibility highly unlikely - especially when considering Mayweather's advanced age, his lack of MMA experience, and placing his aura of invincibility at risk.

“I don’t think [Mayweather] will ever step in the cage. MMA is a very difficult sport, you need to have a lot of strength and takedowns and I just don’t think a boxer is just gonna have all the tools to fight someone in an MMA cage, it’s gonna be really difficult," Khan told SKy Sports.

"I’ve been seeing Mayweather talking about and taking a lot of videos and pictures inside the MMA cage, but I just can’t see that ever happening. I can’t see him ever stepping in with someone in the MMA cage.”
