Kell Brook woke up on Sunday with a great feeling after dominating a former world champion over the full twelve rounds in a similar fashion as WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez. Brook, 24, almost became the first man to stop Lovemore N’dou in the final round of their Sheffield meeting, but it didn’t seem to impress domestic rival Amir Khan.
WBA light-welterweight champion Khan has been touted to move to 147lbs next year if he can unify the 140lb division and there has always been needle between the two prospects, with a fight on the cards at some point between the two. ‘King’ Khan, 25, posted this tweet not long before Brook’s impressive victory and Brook has since responded with his own barrage.
Amir Khan - Kell Brook is fighting a guy who has lost a lot of fights. Paul Malignaggi beat him twice at 140-pounds. If they say Brook is good. Test him with a genuine 147-pounder [who is] top 15 and not even top 10 fighter. All Hype.
Kell Brook : Amir Khan, don't talk rubbish. If you want it, you can have it. Your chin can't stand up to my power and you know this! When you step up to 147 - I'll have a belt waiting for you. P.S. - we could also probably get you back on SKY.
It seems to be becoming the norm now that boxers call each other out on social networking sites after Khan has been embroiled in a similar war with July 23rd opponent Zab Judah for the past few weeks. With Brook’s performance last night though there is a distinct possibility that the two could meet if Brook can pick up a world title in the next twelve months.
The Sheffield fighter may be in line for a crack at WBA champion Vyacheslav Senchenko after his next defence against Marco Avendano in August. Brook picked up the lowly regarded WBA Inter-Continental title but it will have boosted him up the WBA rankings and another win against a top ten fighter could earn him a title shot.
If Khan unifies the 140lb division next month, he will be looking to finally get Timothy Bradley into the ring for a four-belt unification and win or lose, will then move up to welterweight where the undefeated Brook will be waiting for an eagerly-anticipated grudge match next year.
