Amir Khan (15-0, 12KOs) plans to defend his Commonwealth (British Empire) lightweight title on February 2 at the ExCeL Arena in London. Khan closed the year with the biggest win of his career, a 72-second blowout of tough Graham Earl.
Promoter Frank Warren wants Khan to fight EBU lightweight champ Yuri Romanov 20-2, 13KOs). Romanov is said to be tough, but lost a twelve-round decision to Earl in 2006. Since the loss, he's been 3-0 with 2 by knockout. One of those wins, an upset over heavy favorite Juan Carlos Diaz Melero, then sporting a record of 30-0, 16KOs.
