Former champion Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) is pushing to have his fight with IBF welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander (25-1, 14KOs) land in Dubai. Khan, 26-years-old, will return on December 7th. Las Vegas has been mentioned as a potential location, but Khan prefers Dubai and directed Golden Boy Promotions to get things done for the Middle East.
Shah Khan, father and manager of Amir, is 90% certain the fight will take place at a venue in the Middle East. The only issue that would have to be worked out is the time difference in televising the fight in the United States.
“We discussed Dubai and put it on the table as my preferred option to Devon. He wasn’t sure at first and suggested we fight in Vegas. But negotiations are going on right now. My dad and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy are talking to the right people in Dubai,” Amir Khan told The Sun.
"There is a big opportunity for Dubai to attract big names in boxing like Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, myself and many others. The sport is loved there but I don't think they have had an opportunity before to put big fights on.”
