Former world champion Amir Khan has issued an ultimatum to his wife and parents - warning both sides to immediately cease their public war of words in the press and social media.
The entire situation erupted last week, after Khan's wife, Faryal Makhdoom, took to Snapchat and went after Khan's parents and sister. She claimed they had continuously "bullied" her "physically and mentally.”
The situation only got worse from there, as Khan's parents did interviews to defend themselves and Faryal did interviews to double-down on her claims of abuse.
Khan has had enough of the public family feud. He also denied published reports that a reality show was being put together - which some speculated was the motivating force for the unexpected public war between his family members.
"I apologise on the silly picture and message my wife Faryal put up. Here is me working my a** off helping the less fortunate with charity dinners and my family and wife are just destroying my name," Khan wrote in a social media post.
"I didn't want to get involved in this mess. There is NO reality television show. My parents are my parents and my wife is my wife. Whatever misunderstanding has happened they should keep it private.
"This is getting to the point where they will lose a son and a husband. Childish behaviour. Both parties need to stop this. I've had enough."
Last week, Faryal erupted and made some serious claims on her Snapchat account.
“Don’t get your sons married if you’re going to abuse and bully the wife. I’ve always been so quiet but seriously, this message is for everyone! When you bring someone’s daughter — treat her as your own. Your son will be much happier and so will you,” she wrote in a post.
“My husband has done far more than any son has done. And far more than any brother has done. But why is he treated so badly? Jealousy? Hatred for his wife? That’s disgusting,” she continued.
“When you force your son to divorce his wife, when she’s nine months pregnant!!! And your son doesn’t…and he sticks beside his wife. He’s called a p**sy? Ok. “What about when your sisters-in-law comes to hit you when your husband is not home and still you don’t raise your hand out of respect for your husband! Then they think it’s okay to bully you in public and call you bad! Get the f*** out of here,” she raged on.
“Let me stop. God is my witness and that’s why I’m living a great life with my husband and beautiful daughter. Free of jealousy and hatred of anyone — that’s too much energy wasted on a bunch of lame online bullies!” “Khan family is definitely respected. And that’s because of Amir Khan, not a bunch of robbing, selfish, unappreciated people!”
“I worked my *ss off on a catwalk from 7am till 12am at night. My husband is a multi-millionaire but still work and do my own as I can never touch his BLOOD money, when I have a right too! And then I get hating evil sister-in-laws shi**ing on me? Everything I do is for my daughter Lamisah. I would never put money over my child.”
Speaking in Urdu to Geo News, Amir's father and business adviser - Shah Khan - defended himself against the claims being made.
“We have not done anything wrong to her. We have not hit her. All the reports are lies," Shah said.
“We have two daughters. I spoke to her (Faryal) like I would speak to my daughter’s. If we tell our daughter’s not to dress in a certain way, then we would tell her (Faryal) the same thing.
“The whole matter began because of her clothing and her dress code. We kept telling Amir to tell her not to dress this way. If you want to dress this way, then do it, but at least don’t put it on social media. Amir is shy. Even now he (Amir) is ashamed. How can he face the world when she (Faryal) is insulting his parents? She (Faryal) is still our daughter."
