UK superstar Amir Khan, holder of the Commonwealth lightweight title, is still on the hunt for an American trainer and is stepping up the search. A meeting has been set between Khan and "trainer of the year" winner Freddie Roach, who handles fighters such as Manny Pacquiao and James Toney.

Since Khan fired long-time trainer Oliver Harrison a few months ago, the goal of the young champion is to hook up with a trainer from America to sharpen up his skills. Khan spent some time with Roach in 2005 while training at [Roach's] Wild Card Gym in California. Roach told writer George Kimball that he plans to meet with Khan on July 27 to see if a deal can be reached.

“They’ve asked me to train him, and I’m flying over July 27 to meet with them,” Roach said. “I like the kid, so if we can work things out with his people, there’s a good chance I will be working with him.”
