Former world champion Amir Khan believes Tony Bellew is making the same mistake that he did earlier this year - biting off more than he can chew against a much larger man.
Khan, who was competing at welterweight, moved up by eight pounds to challenge Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at a catch-weight of 155-pounds for the WBC middleweight title. Khan started well, but was knocked out in brutal fashion when Canelo landed flush in the sixth round.
Bellew, who a few years ago was fighting at light heavyweight and found a new life for his career in cruiserweight by capturing the WBC title earlier this year, is heading up to the heavyweight division to face David Haye.
Haye, who captured world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight, is viewed as the overwhelming favorite to win the contest - by knockout.
The Sky Sports Box Office fight takes place on March 4th at the O2 Arena in London.
Haye, after being away from the ring since July of 2012 when he knocked out Dereck Chisora, resumed his boxing ways in January. He picked up two quick knockouts against overmatched opponents. He was due to return in December, but instead began negotiations to fight Bellew and finalized the deal. In Haye's defense, Bellew has been aggressively calling him out since May.
"I think he's maybe just tried to bite too much by going in the ring with a heavyweight," Khan told Sky Sports. "I like Bellew. I think he's a great fighter and a great champion. I think he should have stayed at his own weight category. David's a natural heavyweight and he's a very big puncher. Can he deal with that power? Can he take them big shots?
"David has also got a lot of speed. I can't see [Bellew] winning this fight. I am sorry to say that. David is much bigger and much stronger and has a little bit more experience going into that fight."
