At Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16KOs) destroyed mandatory challenger Dmitriy Salita (30-1, 16KOs) in a single round to retain his title.
A right hand in the first ten seconds of the first round sent Salita down on his back and nearly put him away. Salita made it up and Khan went right on the attack and started battering Salita with both hands. Khan sent Salita down for the second time in the first minute of the round after a massive amount of combinations in the corner.
Salita got up again but was not able to fight Khan off, as the British fighter battered him up and down and closed the show. Salita was going down for the third time as the ref jumped in to stop the fight.
