Amir Khan believes Tyson Fury (25-0, 18KOs) would have too much for Anthony Joshua (16-0, 16KOs) should the pair meet right now.
Fury, who holds the IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight titles, has a rematch with Wladimir Klitshcko on July 9th at the Manchester Arena in Manchester. Joshua will make the first defense of his IBF world title on June 25th at the O2 Arena in London.
When asked by Kugan Cassius if the new IBF world champion would beat Fury, Khan responded: “At the moment, no. It would be very hard for him. Fury is a very good fighter, people don’t give him the credit.”
Joshua won Fury’s old belt when recently sparking Charles Martin out in the second round to earn Britain another titlist at Heavyweight.
“Because it’s Fury people like to have a dig. It’s too early for [Joshua] in his career,” continued Khan.
Mouth-watering unification fights have been hotly discussed since, but Fury has to win the rematch with Klitschko before these blockbuster showdowns could come to fruition.
The legendary former champion Klitschko is hungry and determined to win back his belts, which makes for a very tough first defence for Fury.
Khan himself has a tough fight ahead, when he moves up to 155-pounds to challenge WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
