Amir Khan weighed just over the welterweight limit at the IBF's fight day check weigh-in earlier today, as he prepares for his WBA and IBF light-welterweight title defense against Lamont Peterson later tonight in Washington DC. Khan clashes with Peterson at the city’s Convention Centre and has admitted that he is likely to move up to 147 to seek fresh challenges during 2012.
“I weighed in with my clothes on and was around about 147½lbs,” confirmed Khan when speaking to Sky Sports News. “I made the weight quite easy. I hydrated and carbed up so I feel nice and strong for the fight. I’ll probably walk in around 148 or 149 – I’m thinking of moving up to 147 after this fight. I feel in great shape.”
He added: “I’m fighting in the capital of America. I want to win new fans over and it will be a brilliant night of boxing for the US and UK.”
Sky Sports 1 and HD1 televise from 11pm tonight.
