Puerto Rico's multi-division world champion Amanda 'The Real Deal' Serrano has not taken her foot off the accelerator for what she hopes will be a scheduled showdown against undefeated and undisputed junior welterweight champion Katie Taylor.
Their fight is still tentative for May 2 in Manchester. The date can change at any moment, with heavyweights Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin colliding in the main event.
Despite the fact that the public gyms in New York remain closed due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in the state, Serrano visits a private one to maintain the training regimen for the Taylor showdown.
"Yesterday’s strength workout went pretty smooth. I hit all the numbers my coach wanted. 140 on the bench and 225 on the deadlift. After doing the 225 real easy he raised it to 250, which also went up smoothly," Serrano stated.
Still, she called for people to remain in their homes to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus. The Puerto Rican said that she will continue training because she has not received news that her title fight against Taylor has been postponed.
"Heading to get our strength & conditioning workout in. We are going to a private location where it will be only us. Please if you don’t have a private place to train, stay home safe, this Covid-19 is serious. Other than these workouts we stay home all day," Serrano said.
New York is by far the state with the most cases, with over 52,000 of the 121,000 cases in the United States.
