On October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City, triple world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (43-0, 37 KOs) will have one of the most dangerous fights of his career when he faces Brian Viloria (36-4, 22 KOs).
Gonzalez will defend his flyweight (112 pounds) championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC) against.
The fight will be the HBO Pay-Per-View co-featured attraction to the Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux middleweight unification.
Gonzalez's Nicaraguan countryman, former champion Rosendo Alvarez, says Viloria is the bigger puncher of the two and Gonzalez must very careful in the fight.
Alvarez, a former world champion at 105 and 108-pounds, actually had the opportunity to spar with Viloria many years ago and vividly remembers his punching power. He says Viloria's age of 34 will affect his ability to land a crushing blow.
"Viloria hits harder than Roman, but Chocolatito can overwhelm him with his punches. Our champion [Roman] can not fight [Viloria] by being right in front of him as he's done in the past [with other fighters]. It would be better to fight him with intelligence and using his advantages in boxing as leverage," Alvarez said.
"Age affects the reflexes and speed, but not power. When I was a boxer, I had the opportunity to spar with Viloria in smaller weights and I had never felt a strong punch like his."
