Zanfer Promotions of Mexico is planning to stage a rematch between Ramon Alvarez and Omar Chavez on March 11th, as a pre-event preview of the upcoming clash on May 6th between their siblings, Ramon's younger bother Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Omar's older brother Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Fernando Beltran, who is the CEO of Zanfer, is putting together a wide range of events for the first quarter of the year, according to a company source, and those events include boxers such as Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada, Luis 'Panterita' Nery and the fight between Álvarez and Chavez.
"In theory the only thing missing [for Alvarez-Chavez] is the venue. The fighters have an agreement and that fight would serve in some way to turn up the heat for the May fight between Canelo and Julio," said a company source to ESPN Deportes. "I think they both know the importance of this fight. We will have see if they get in the ring, but it seems that the agreement is already there."
Alvarez (24-5-2, 16 KOs) won a unanimous decision over Chavez in September of 2014. Since then, Chavez (35-3-1, 23 KOs) has won three fights in a row. Alvarez picked up a win last December after suffering a decision loss to former world champion Antonio Margarito in August.
For this Saturday, Zanfer will put champion Anabel Ortiz in Mexico City in a non-title fight against Brenda Ramos and next week will lead Miguel 'Alacrán' Berchelt in his fight for the World Boxing Council super featherweight championship against Francisco 'Bandido 'Vargas in California.
For February, in Rosarito, Jackie Nava will face the Venezuelan Ana María Lozano on the 4th, while on the 18th they will put Arely Muciño on the billboard of the WBC Women's Convention in Hermosillo and for 25 they are thinking about having 'Gallo' Estrada headline a card in his native Sonora.
Already in March, on the 4th, Luis Nery will collide with Thai boxer Suriyan Sor Rungvisai in a WBC title bout in Mexico City.
