BoxingScene.com caught up with former title challenger Allan Green (30-3) to discuss his future plans. The Tulsa, OK native talks about his recent win over Craig Gandy, the upcoming fight between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson and more in this exclusive interview.
BoxingScene.com: Give us your thoughts on your recent win over Craig Gandy, which was a second round knockout.
Allan Green: I just beat the guy I was given in front of me. What more could you expect? It was a second round knockout. I took the fight on 4 days notice and fought at a much higher weight than I am accustomed too. All and all it was a good night.
BoxingScene.com: Besides the short notice, you hadn't fought in about 9 months. I imagine that you felt rusty in the ring.
Allan Green: Of course (laughing). You are going to feel rust. I felt very rusty.
BoxingScene.com: Now that you have the tune up fight out of the way what do you want to do next?
Allan Green: Man I want to fight as soon as possible. You know. I would like a big fight. I would like to fight one more fight before then if it came my way. I would take it but I just want to stay busy. I just want to stay busy. That is the thing about my career that I have been plagued with. I fight once and I don't fight again for another 8 or 9 months. That is not conducive to a fighter. That is not good.
BoxingScene.com: Would you like your next fight to be a step up and more of a midlevel fight instead of a Craig Gandy before you get a big fight?
Allan Green: Oh yeah we would like a much better guy than that. I wanted a much better guy than that for this last fight but that is all you can get on 3 or 4 days notice. I wouldn't want to fight a guy with that kind of record again.
BoxingScene.com: What about a guy like Librado Andrade who had a recent win, would you want to face someone at his level?
Allan Green: That would be a nice fight. That is a good fight. I would like that fight or someone like that.
BoxingScene.com: You just recently made the move up to the light heavyweight division. The division has a lot of big names. Who are some of the guys you would like to fight?
Allan Green: Oh man I would like (Tavoris) Cloud, or (Beibut) Shumenov or Nathan Cleverly. You have a lot of guys. Maybe Cloud or Shumenov or even a Pascal would be just fine.
BoxingScene.com: Who do you think wins the fight between Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson?
Allan Green: Bernard may stop him believe it or not. Dawson is a good fighter but he is still green. Even though he has been champion as long as he has and he has beat Glen Johnson twice there are certain things I notice. Hopkins, as smart a fighter as he is, he knows how to fight fighters like Dawson. Dawson doesn't really have a killer instinct. He is a hell of a fighter but he doesn't have that killer instinct so I think Hopkins may stop him.
BoxingScene.com: Do you have a message for the fans?
Allan Green: Just same o' same o'. Just trying to get back in the ring so I can get a title shot so I can win a title at 75.
