South Africa's Ali Funeka, the IBF's mandatory contender to the lightweight title, has vowed to return home with the titles. He faces IBF/WBO champion Nate Campbell in a what many expect to be an action-packed bout on an HBO triple-header from the BankAtlantic Centre in Florida on February 14.
According to The Daily Dispatch, Funeka received a big send off from friends and fans during a fashion show gala over the weekend.
As Funeka strutted around with models, wearing clothes by designer/financial backer, Brian Redding - the fans would erupt with chants of "and the new world champion."
Funeka said that he is fully motivated to go for broke in the fight, and bring the titles back home.
“I know there is a lot at stake because the entire African continent will be watching me and this gesture by Mr Redding is perfect motivation for me to go for broke against Campbell,” Funeka said. “I tell you now I am bringing back those belts.”
