According to West London Sport, heavyweight contender Ali Adams (13-4-1, 5KOs) has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance. Adams was last seen getting knocked out in four rounds by veteran Audley Harrison on May 26th in Brentwood.

Adams confirms the positive test result but claims the banned substance likely came from a medication he was using to treat a neck injury.

He is believed to have tested positive following the TKO loss to Harrison.

In an e-mail published by Boxing News, Adams wrote: “I can confirm that I tested positive for a prohibited substance and that I have been provisionally suspended from boxing until UK Anti-Doping have completed their investigations.

“It is not clear yet how this substance entered my body, although I believe it may have come from treatment I received for a neck injury.

“I would like to make it clear that I did not and would never intentionally take any banned substances.

“I am totally against the use of drugs in sport and I would never try to enhance my performance by taking them. I hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible.”
