BoxingScene.com speaks to Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo (17-1) moments after his devastating knockout victory over Harry Joe Yorgey (22-1-1). El Perro speaks about the punch that he landed that will undoubtedly go down as a knockout of the year candidate. He also speaks on winning the WBO interm title and his thoughts on his stablemate Chad Dawson's performance versus Glenn Johnson.
BoxingScene.com: First off congratulations on your victory. Give us your thoughts on the fight.
Alfredo Angulo: I am extremely happy. We are very content with the outcome. We trained very hard for the fight. At first we didn't know this was going to be for the interm title. A week ago Gary (Shaw) told me it would be for the title but it didn't really sink in until now. I went in there and did what I had to do and thanks to God I came out with the win.
BoxingScene.com: In the first round you were stalking him but you seemed relaxed and weren't really pressing the issue. Yorgey was moving well and was countering pretty good. What did you do to change up and land more punches in the second round?
Alfredo Angulo: Well in the first round I wanted to see what Yorgey was going to do. After the first round we knew exactly what we had to do and that is what I think we did.
BoxingScene.com: Have you ever punched someone like that before? That was a wicked punch. Yorgey was out before you landed the second shot.
Alfredo Angulo: I know it was a good shot. I hit him with some good punches in the second and before that in the third round. Yorgey is a tough guy and took the punches. It was a great punch though. The ref didn't stop the fight so I had to keep punching. If they aren't going to pull me away or stop the fight I have to keep punching.
BoxingScene.com: Were you surprised they didn't stop it sooner?
Alfredo Angulo: I wasn't surprised. Yorgey seemed like he was out of it and was trying to hold on but they didn't stop it and I knew I still had to keep punching.
BoxingScene.com: Were you surprised you knocked him out so fast?
Alfredo Angulo: The first rounds I felt that Yorgey would try to box and move but when he felt my punches he slowed down. I didn't think it would be that soon but when he felt the power of El Perro then I knew he wouldn't last that long.
BoxingScene.com: Now you have the interm title along with Paul Williams and Sergiy Dzinziruk has the actual belt. Are you going to be looking to fight Dzinziruk?
Alfredo Angulo: Its confusing (laughing). So many interm or regular titles. I just know I have this belt.
BoxingScene.com: Do you think Gary (Shaw) will look to make a fight with Dzinziruk?
Alfredo Angulo: I don't really know what he wants to do. I will sit down with him soon to go over that but right now we are going to get some pizza and enjoy the win.
BoxingScene.com: (laughing) Sounds like a plan. How does it feel to get the interm title, your first world title?
Alfredo Angulo: To tell you the truth Ryan I don't feel anything. We didn't have plans to fight for a title till 2010 so I really don't have a feeling. I mean I am happy but I just don't have a feeling yet. I don't know what I feel but I am happy. Its like I said on HBO this fight and this title are for the people that follow El Perro.
BoxingScene.com: I know you want to get to that pizza and celebrate your win so this is the last question. Do you have a message for the fans?
Alfredo Angulo: Like I always say, when you see the name Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo on a fight card you know that it is going to be a great show. I also want to thank my fans for their support.
