At the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, junior middleweight prospect Alfredo Angulo (15-0, 12 KOs) beat up veteran Cosme Rivera (31-12-2, 23 KOs) for five bruising rounds before the fight was stopped.
Rivera came out on the move and throwing jabs from the distance. Angulo quickly closed the gap, but suffered a bad cut over the right eye from a clash of heads - the ref ruled the cut was caused by a punch. Angulo became very active at the end of the first when the blood began to flow from his cut. Rivera came back in the second on the move and landing good jabs to keep Angulo away. In the final minute, Angulo landed a big left to shake Rivera. The two would start fighting toe to toe with big punches. Angulo would get the better of the exchanges.
Angulo went back on the attack in the third, landing some big punches to get Rivera in trouble. River barely made it out of the round as Angulo tried to finish him off in the final minute. Some good left hook from Rivera in fourth would open Angulo's cut back up but he kept on coming and kept on punching with the harder shots. The pounding continued in the fifth, Angulo came out with power punches, coming forward and dealing some punishment. An assault of punches in the fifth would force a Florida commission member to jump on the apron to stop the fight.
