BoxingScene.com spoke to WBO interm-junior middleweight champion Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo about why he missed Monday's final press conference for his upcoming fight with heavy hitter Joel Julio. Angulo had this to say, "We weren't invited to be on any of the telephone conference calls or any of the prior media events so I don't see why I needed to be at this press conference."
When told that he may be perceived as a prima donna Angulo said - "look Ryan you know me better than that. You know me better than most of the media. I am always happy to speak to the media and the fans. I love my fans and all the fans of boxing. When anyone wants an interview I always give them an interview. I always interact with the fans. We just feel that we weren't part of this promotion so why should we be at the press conference?"
Speaking from experience it is true that Angulo is easily accessible to the media and likes to interact with fans. Angulo continued, "It is not like we asked to be on the top of the banner or anything like that. We are the co-feature fight on HBO's Boxing After Dark and feel we should be promoted as such."
We switched gears and began to talk about the fight itself and Angulo is looking forward to stepping into the ring on Saturday and going to war with Joel Julio. The Mexicali, Mexico native has heard the talk that Julio is confident that he can knock Angulo out and looks forward to taking on that challenge. El Perro promises an exciting fight and that says that God willing he will come out with the victory.
