Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo is always reluctant to talk about future opponents or fights as he likes to only concentrate on the opponent in front of him. Angulo will look to get himself back in the mix in the junior middleweight division when he takes on Erislandy Lara on June 8th at the Home Depot Center in a fight where the winner will almost surely move on to secure a big name fight.

When Angulo was on the most recent episode of BoxingScene Radio, he opened up about other opponents and fighters; something he seldom does. One fighter that was brought up during his interview was James Kirkland who was the last fighter to hand Angulo a loss back in 2011.

Kirkland was also a recent guest on BoxingScene Radio and said not only would he give Angulo a rematch, but said he would be victorious once again against his Mexican counterpart.

Angulo was asked what he thought of Kirkland’s comments and if a fight with Kirkland was still something he’d like to pursue or if that matter was a thing of the past.
“I like to think the fights that already happened are in the past. If they were to offer me a rematch between Kirkland and myself, I have no problem fighting him again. If he thinks he would win again, I think he’s mistaken. But before anything he has a lot of legal problems that he needs to resolve first in order to get back in the ring” said Angulo.

A fight between both fighters is definitely something that would be difficult to make as Kirkland is still awaiting a verdict in court regarding his pending legal issues with promoter Golden Boy Promotions among other parties he was previously involved with.
Angulo, who has it made it known he will fight whoever his promoter puts in front of him, said while he would love the rematch, Kirkland needs to concentrate on fixing his legal troubles before he can even talk about fighting anyone.

“I think the most optimum thing would be for him to first fix his legal problems with the people [he’s dealing with] and then talk about who he’d want to fight. Even though I would want to fight with him and would want to force that fight to happen, I don’t think it would happen because like I said, you don’t know when he’ll be able to fight again. Why? Because he has a lot of problems and if he doesn’t fix those problems then who knows when he’ll return to the ring” Angulo would tell BoxingScene Radio.
