Alfonso Gomez Stops Jose Luis Castillo After Five

At Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, WBC Continental Americas welterweight champion Alfonso Gomez (22-4-2, 11KOs) stopped Jose Luis Castillo (60-10-1, 52KOs) after five rounds of action. Castillo may retire from boxing after this loss.

A very slow first round. Neither guy taking any chances and jabbing for most of it. The second round was more of the same from both. A clash of heads at the start of the third. They continued to work in a slow pace in the third. Gomez seemed to get the better of the action on the inside. Gomez began to take over the fight in the fourth as he begna to get more active, knocking Castillo back with punches. Gomez continued to outwork Castillo in the fifth round of the fight and increased his work. Castillo looked tired.
