Welterweight contender Alfonso Gomez extended his win streak to five straight with a second round knockout over Calvin Green in the Fox Deportes-televised main event at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California on Saturday evening.

Gomez weighed 148.4 lb, well shy of the agreed-upon 150 lb. catchweight. Green came in slightly heavy at 150.2 lb.

The win was Gomez’ first fight in more than a year, but no evidence of ring rust existed in the brief encounter. Gomez came out throwing in the opening round, rocking the 33-year old journeyman who had also been out of the ring for more than a year.

A dominant first round was followed up with a more impressive showing in the next – and final – frame. Gomez went on the attack, cracking Green with a right hand and driving him into the ropes. The onslaught continued until the referee finally risked the Texan from any further damage suffered.

Gomez improves to 23-4-2 (12KO). Green has now lost three of his last four (each loss by stoppage) as he falls to 21-6-1 (13KO)

Jose “El Gato” Roman of Garden Grove, California opened up the telecast with a first round knockout win over Jose Mendoza of Mexico.

The undefeated 23-year old lightweight prospect scored two knockdowns, the second resulting in the full ten count at 2:03 of the first round.

Roman improves to 10-0 (8KO) with the win, his second of the year. Mendoza suffers his second straight knockout as he falls to 7-2 (3KO).

In a televised swing bout, undefeated Riverside product Michael Franco (19-0, 12KO) turned back the challenge of Rafael Lora (11-6, 5KO) over eight rounds. Scores were 77-73 (twice) and 76-74.

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, Cabazon, California - Super featherweight contender Michael Farenas (30-3-3, 25 KOs) won an eight round majority decision over Daniel Attah (25-7-1, 9 KOs). The scores were 75-75, 79-71 and 78-72. Farenas allowed Attah to win the eary rounds, but woke up in the middle of the fight and scored a knockdown in the seventh. Attah lose a point in the sixth for continued holding. 

Welterweight prospect Ricky Duenas (9-1, 3 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over Alfredo Rivera (1-8). The scores were 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55. Duenas, in his third fight of the year, wins his eight straight since losing his pro debut in 2008.
