Kevin Cunningham, the manager and trainer of IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (25-1, 14KOs), tells BoxingScene.com that his fighter is going to punish undefeated Shawn Porter (22-0-1, 14KOs) on November 30th in San Antonio, Texas. The fight had been finalized to headline a Showtime televised doubleheader.
There is some bad blood between the two camps. Back in April, Shawn's father/trainer Ken Porter told BoxingScene.com that his son got cheated when the two boxers fought in the amateurs.
"We owe Devon an ass-whooping - because when Shawn was eight-years-old, Kevin lied to me and said Devon was eight, and he was [actually] ten, and they fought and Devon beat us. I have never gotten over that and I don't think Shawn has either. You don't do that to an eight year old, put him in there with someone who is ten and lie about their age. We owe him an ass-whooping, let's get it on," Ken told BoxingScene.com.
Cunningham had quickly replied, telling BoxingScene that Ken was putting out innacurate information regarding the age difference.
"He makes up this lame ass lie about Devon's age. How could Devon be ten and Shawn was eight when they were both born in 1987? I hope he trains his son better than he did then," Cunningham said.
Now the two boxers will settle their differences in the pro ranks. Cunningham has promised that Alexander is coming to put on a statement making performance.
"This is a fight that Kenny says he's been looking to get for the last 17 years, since Devon beat Shawn when they were nine years old. He got his wish. Come November 30th, he's going to wish that he didn't wish for this," Cunningham said.
"I'll tell you what, we don't plan on doing a lot of running around and boxing. Devon is coming to make a statement and there won't be any running or dancing around. If Porter wants the title, he's going to have to come with it - because Devon won't be hard to find. Devon is going to step to him and go to work. Kenny Porter put his son in a situation that I guarantee he is going to regret on the night of November 30th."
In the Showtime televised co-feature, Mexico's Leo Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15KOs) will make the first defense of his WBC super bantamweight title against Cesar Seda (25-1, 17Kos) of Puerto Rico.
