On January 19th IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander (24-1) will face his mandatory challenger Kell Brook (29-0) of the UK in a fight televised by Showtime. On a recent edition of The Boxing Lab, Boxingscene's official audio show, we asked Alexander if he looks at this fight as just a mandatory he has to get of the way or if he feels it will help advance his career.

"Both. It does mean something (more than just being a mandatory) because I guess he is an up and comer and he is someone who they are trying to make a star out of in the UK. I also treat it like a mandatory which will lead to bigger and better fights. That being said I don't take anyone lightly," Alexander revealed.

While a mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the ultimate prize, Alexander said that there are plenty of big fights out there.  He is interested in the outcome of both HBO and Showtime's fights on Saturday.

"You have Guerrero-Berto.  You have Khan-Molina, and Ricky Hatton is there. There are a lot of guys out there that would be big fights."

The venue for Alexander's clash against Brook still has to be finalized. There are a few different venues being looked at but Alexander said that Las Vegas is the front runner, which is music to his ears.

"They are talking about bringing it to Vegas and I have always wanted to fight there. I was supposed to fight Bailey there until it was cancelled and moved to New York. I am really excited about it," Alexander told The Boxing Lab.
