In early December, unbeaten junior welterweight prospect Alex de Jesus (19-0, 13KOs) aka "El Pollo" was arrested in Puerto Rico on charges of domestic abuse and a weapons violation. He was held at a regional jail in Bayamon for nine-days. De Jesus says the days in jail did him good and now that he's out - he plans to straighten out his life and win a world title in 2009. He says a ring return may take place on February 7.
"I wanted to remain in jail for a few days and refused to receive any type of aid from people that wanted to help me. Although per the instructions of my lawyer - I cannot speak about the case. Now I am going to give my body and soul because 2009 will be the year in which I will become a world champion," de Jesus told Primera Hora.
De Jesus has experienced a lot of problems with making weight and was even hit with a suspension for allegations that someone submitted false medicals to the Athletic Commission of Connecticut. He promises that nobody will see any more weight problems coming from him in the future.
"I am going to train with alot more responsibility, seriousness and discipline," de Jesus said.
