Joachim Alcine (30-0, 19KOs) made the first defense of his WBA junior middleweight title at the Bell Centre in Montreal, stopping Alfonso Mosquera (19-6, 7KOs) of Panama in the twelfth and final round of their contest. Alcine upset Travis Simms to win the title in July.
The Candadian crowd went nuts when Alcine, a Quebec native, closed the show in the final round, dropping a game Mosquera twice, before the referee stopped the fight.
In the co-feature, super middleweight Jean Pascal (20-0, 14KOs) won a wide unanimous ten-round decision over Brian Norman (15-6 4KOs). The scores were 98-92 on all three cards. Pascal retains the NABA, NABO and NABF super middleweight titles with the decision. Norman made it a fight, often slugging with Pascal, but received a lot more punishment in return when he stood his ground.
Pascal moves one step closer towards a clash with Edison Miranda, who watched the bout from ringside. Pascal is slated to return to the ring on Jan. 11 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The event will be a doubleheader featuring Pascal and Miranda in seperate bouts. If they both win in January, they will be matched in a fight scheduled to take place before the summer. In the last few months, Pascal and Miranda have exchanged insults through the media.
The bad blood began after Miranda's fifth-round stoppage of veteran Henry Porras on October 30th in Florida, Pascal was at ringside and called Miranda to fight from his seat and later would demand a bout inside the ring, where they almost traded punches when both fighters took off their shirts and began to talk trash face to face.
