The Canadian Press reports that WBA junior middleweight champion Joachim Alcine (29-0, 18KOs) is going to make an optional defense of his title on October 27 in Montreal, Canada. Alcine won the title in July after upsetting unbeaten Travis Simms with a unanimous twelve-round decision.

Alcine is said to be facing either Alejandro Garcia (25-2) of Mexico, who is a former two-time WBA champion at junior middleweight, or European champ Christophe Canclaux (34-2) of France.

The next opponent for Alcine will be decided in the same month. Former champions Jose Rivera and Daniel Santos collide on October 6 on the undercard of Oleg Maskaev-Samuel Peter at New York's Madision Square Garden. The winner is said to become the mandatory challenger to Alcine's title.
