Former world champions Alberto “El Explosivo” Machado and Ángel “Tito” Acosta are pondering the next step in their respective careers.

While Acosta could begin his 112-pound campaign as early as the end of October, Machado would do the same in the lightweight division (135 pounds) in November.

Both are returning after suffering defeats in headline fights back in June. Machado's original plan was to wait until 2020 to make his return to the ring. However, it is possible that both will fight in the fall.

"It's a possibility," said Bryan Pérez of Miguel Cotto Promotions to Carlos Gonzalez. "We are waiting for the details of the date, but I understand that Machado wants to fight."

Machado fell short in his attempt to recover the "regular" title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) that he lost to Andrew Cancio. In their second fight in Indio, California, Cancio achieved a technical knockout to retain the belt. Machado was also knocked out in the first meeting.

“He took time out from the gym and from boxing. We are going to find the best alternative in which he feels comfortable at the best weight to accommodate his body,” said Pérez.

Acosta, meanwhile, will not officially remain at 108 pounds after making six consecutive title fights in that weight.

“Tito is working for a date in the last quarter of the year at 112 pounds. This is the plan. Everything is a bit premature in terms of date and location, but it must be by the end of October, ”said Pérez.

In his last fight, Acosta suffered a controversial twelfth round stoppage loss to Elwin Soto. Acosta went down in the third round and was badly hurt during the twelfth. He was well ahead on the cards when the contest was waved off.
