ALA Promotions is planning two big fight cards in the United States in July and September this year.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told the Standard that the July 9 card will be staged at the San Mateo Events Center in San Francisco while the bigger fight card will be held at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California on September 24 in what is being billed as a Philippines vs Mexico showdown in partnership with Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions.
Aldeguer said that the RP-Mexico clash should being in the Hispanic crowd in addition to the Filipinos and Fil-Americans who enjoyed the first presentation of ALA in October last year.
The plan is to bring in name opponents to add prestige to the event.
He said that should Prince Albert Pagara do well against Yesner Talavera of Nicaragua in the main event at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu on February 27, he will strive to arrange a fight between Pagara and former world super flyweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr.
Michael told us his US trip so far has been successful and the executives of The Filipino Channel of ABS-CBN headed by Raffy Lopa have been “very supportive.”
Sanchez is the same fighter who gave Cesar Juarez who is remembered for the brutal battle with Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire who won the vacant WBO super bantamweight title in Puerto Rico.
The 24 year Sanchez Jr who has a record of 20-4-1 with 9 knockouts dropped a close decision to Juarez in a furious battle.
Sanchez Jr.won the vacant IBF super flyweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Roberto Domingo Sosa on June 8, 2013 and also scored a rousing 9th round knockout over former Filipino world champion Rodel Mayol.
