BoxingScene.com can confirm that Dublin's Stephen "The Rock" Ormond, 17-1 (8), has been forced to withdraw from next Saturday's WBO European lightweight title clash against Manchester's "Turbo" Terry Flanagan, 25-0 (9) due to a viral infection.
The 31-year-old was due to meet Flanagan, 25, on a Dennis Hobson-promoted bill at Hillsborough Leisure Centre, but will now have to wait a little bit longer before making the fourth defence of the title he won by dishing out an unfriendly beating to Adam Mate in September 2013 (W TKO 1).
"The Rock" has been in good form since narrowly losing to Paul Appleby in March of 2012, posting recent wins over Derry Mathews and Karim El Ouazghari (W UD 10 and TKO 5 respectively ) in recent months to secure a fight against Flanagan, who is the current British titlist.
A new bill-topper is being put together, according to Francis Warren of Queensberry Promotions.
