In what ringside observers called an absolute bloodbath, Friday "The 13th" Ahunanya (23-5-3, 13KOs) stopped Shane Cameron (19-1, 17KOs) in the twelfth and final round of their heavyweight scrap at the Sky City Convention Center in Auckland, New Zealand, breaking Cameron's 19 fight win streak.
For over a year, Cameraon has been working his way towards a hometown bout with countryman David Tua, but that fight is unlikely to happen now or in the future. Tua must be kicking himself because Cameron's camp had offered him a decent sum in the early part of the year.
Ahunanya, a former sparring partner of Cameron, was on target with his power punches to head and body, throwing combinations in bunches down the stretch. Cameron was bleeding heavy from several cuts on his face and inside his mouth, splasing red all over the ring and his opponent. In the final two rounds, Ahunanya was dishing out a beating while Cameron, who was barely able to see from all of the blood running down his face, was trying to hang on to the final bell.
Cameron was dropped for the first time in his career in the twelfth and moments later he was decked for the second time. The referee stopped the action to save Cameron from further punishment. Ahunanya picks up the WBA Pan-Asian, WBA North American and WBO Asia-Pacific titles with the win.
