Former four division world champion Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) is ready to return for the first time since April of 2016, when he stoped Ashley Theophane. In that contest, Broner was set to defend his WBA junior welterweight title. He lost the title on the scale after failing to make weight.
Broner will face junior welterweight contender Adrian Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) in a Showtime televised main event on Saturday from the Cintas Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati.
The contest was scheduled to take place at a catch-weight of 142. Last week, Broner requested a change in weight - and now the fight is taking place at the full welterweight limit of 147-pounds.
Broner wants to make a statement before his hometown crowd and feels no pressure in fighting before his close friends and family.
"I'm just ready to put on a show for my hometown. I love fighting in Cincinnati. I know that I have a lot of people coming to see me win, but even in my home city, there will be people coming to see me lose. I handle the pressure of a hometown fight here. This one is one a whole different level because I haven't fought here in a long time and I can't wait," Broner said.
Broner, who usually fights at least three to four times a year, only saw action once in 2016. He aims to be very active in 2017.
"I could box every two weeks if they let me. But if I can stay healthy I'm looking forward to staying more active this year and fighting as many times in big fights as possible," Broner said.
"I don't want to do anything but bring out the best Adrien Broner. There are some fights you can win, but not with a great performance. With a guy like Granados, I can't slack. He's only going to bring the best out of me. My main focus right now is on Adrien Broner and bringing more positivity in my life. It all starts with boxing."
