After an impressive win in his United States debut a few months ago, unbeaten Adrian Montoya returns to action tonight.
Montoya will face Juan Torres tonight in a six-round bout at the Big Punch Arena in Tijuana, Mexico.
The 22-year-old Montoya (11-0, 9 KOs) last fought on Oct. 27, defeating Humberto Rubalcava in a clash of hard-hitting junior featherweight prospects. The fight also marked his United States debut after fighting all of his fights in Mexico.
Originally from Puerto Penasco, Mexico, which is the same hometown of WBC junior bantamweight titleholder Juan Francisco Estrada, Montoya splits his time training between the Los Angeles area and up the 101 Freeway in the boxing hotbed of Oxnard.
Montoya fought four times in 2019 and is hoping to remain as active this year. He is trained by Edgar Cruz and his strength-and-conditioning coach is Federico Mendoza.
Word is Montoya will fight on Mar. 29 at The Avalon in Hollywood, California on a fight card promoted by Tom Loeffler.
Torres (3-11-1, 1 KO), who resides in Tijuana, has not fought since losing by unanimous decision to Ali Cortez in August of 2017. He has lost his last seven fights, all by decision.
