WBC and lineal light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1) recently revealed to BoxingScene.com that he will return to the ring in July and that the winner of the April 30th Edwin Rodriguez-Thomas Williams Showtime televised fight will likely be his next opponent.
What hasn't been determined is the venue for Stevenson's upcoming fight. Most of Stevenson's bouts have taken place in the province of Quebec, where the Haitian resides. His most recent fight, a knockout win over Tommy Karpency this past September, took place in Toronto, Ontario.
Stevenson said sites in both locations are in the running for his next fight.
"We don't have a venue yet. It hasn't been decided yet but it might be Montreal or Toronto," said Stevenson.
In an interview with BoxingScene.com last year, Stevenson said that he hoped to stage a fight in his homeland of Haiti before the end of the year. Those plans are on hold until the nation elects a new president. The current Acting President is Jocelerme Privert who took over office for Michel Martelly, who stepped down on February 7th.
"We don't have a president right now. From a security standpoint we want to wait till they have a president in place. We are going to wait till after the elections.
"Once there is a new president we will talk about having a fight there," said Stevenson.
The election to determine the next president is slated to take place on April 24th.
