BoxingScene.com has been advised that super middleweight Adonis Stevenson (15-1-0, 12 KOs) is getting close to a title shot. This boxer was originally scheduled to see action on October 15th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, as part of the undercard to the world championship fight between WBC light heavyweight king Bernard Hopkins and challenger Chad Dawson.
Instead, Stevenson will appear in a featured bout on next 'Fast and Furious' event at the Bell Centre on November 17. Although the identity of his rival is still unknown, promoter Yvon Michel confirmed to BoxingScene that the IBF's InterContinental title will be at stake.
"The show was going to involve a fight between Adrian Diaconu and Nicholson Poulard," said Michel in a telephone interview. "But Diaconu requested more time to prepare. So we took the opportunity to place Adonis on the show in Montreal. Our intent with Adonis is to get him close to a world title fight. In his last fight, he did very well in Las Vegas. It would have been interesting to have him fight in Los Angeles, but the fight in Montreal will allow him to enter the ranks of the IBF, which fits exactly into our goal. "
