MGM Grand, Las Vegas - Promoter Yvon Michel of GYM has advised BoxingScene.com that WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (24-1, 20KOs) will return to action in December, with Showtime televising. The exact date, and opponent, will be finalized shortly. The Bell Centre in Montreal is a possible venue.
Stevenson won a twelve round unanimous decision over Andrzej Fonfara in May and appeared to be heading in the direction of a unification with WBA/IBF champion Bernard Hopkins. But their negotiations dragged on and Hopkins instead reached an agreement to face WBO champion Sergey Kovalev on November 8th.
Michel tells BoxingScene that Stevenson will have his final voluntary in December and then move forward with a mandatory defense against countryman Jean Pascal.
