On the sidelines of the press conference announcing the rematch between Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal, BoxingScene.com/Netboxe.com met with rising super middleweight Adonis Stevenson (13-1-0). "Superman" Stevenson, a lefty hitter who will make his return to Montreal on April 8, will face American Derek Edwards (25-1-0) at Bell Centre in the main event of the next chapter in the Fast and Furious series.
"I'm really excited to return to Montreal," said Stevenson, who fought his last duel in Salisbury, Maryland, on a card presented by DiBella Entertainment. "I intend to give a good show at the Bell Centre in front of my fans. "
A former WBC Continental Americas, and former WBC International champion in 2008 and 2009, Adonis Stevenson wants to make a statement with Edwards, a boxer who held the NABA belt in 2009.
"I have not had the opportunity to see my opponent, but my trainer Howard Grant has already taken the time to review videos. So I'll soon know more about him. "
The return to Montreal for Stevenson represents a homecoming. He returned to the stable of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), the promoter who helped him make his first fights in the professionals ranks.
"We just finalized an agreement with GYM. I expect the next three to four fights I'll be facing major challenges. I told them I was ready to confront anyone."
Stevenson, a super middleweight, has evolved into a booming division that is packed with headliners.
"I'm definitely ready for the elite of my division. That's what I asked from GYM. I want to be match with the elite in order to showcase the best of myself. "
On the 8th of April, Adonis Stevenson will fight on the undercard of the WBC eliminator between David Lemieux and Marco Antonio Rubio. An event that will be televised on ESPN.
