In recent interviews on BoxingScene.com, WBC/lineal light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson held nothing back when he accused WBO/WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev and his promoter of using his name to secure an extension with HBO - who doesn't currently do business with Stevenson's adviser Al Haymon.  Stevenson believes that their interest in an unification fight, which would produce an undisputed champion was just for publicity and that they never had any intention of making the fight.

Stevenson feels that if Main Events was truly interested, they wouldn't have walked away from a purse bid and would have submitted a bid to put the fight on pay-per-view in order to produce a bid that could compete with the deep pocket's of the PBC, Haymon's series that is backed by the hedge fund Waddell and Reed.

"Kovalev used my name to negotiate with HBO.  That is the truth.  If Duva wants the fight (on her preferred network) they have to put up the money whether it is pay-per-view or whatever.  That is up to Al Haymon and the promoters.  That is their  job.  My job is to fight and I want all the titles," said Stevenson who made it clear that his goal is to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion.

"I want to be the first Haitian-Canadian to be the undisputed champion at light heayweight.  I want it is so bad.  That is my goal.  I want to make history.  I want it now but Duva wants to wait me out.  She is going to wait for a long time because I am here to stay.  I want to fight now but the problem is Kovalev's team refused the purse bid. 

"Kovalev should fight me to make more money.  You can't tell me he is getting paid a lot of money for those guys he is fighting.  I am the linear champion.  You can't talk about the light heavyweight division without talking about me.  There are a lot of haters out there but most of these fans know the real deal.  That I am the linear champion."

Before a Kovalev fight can be even remotely possible, Stevenson must take care of business against Karpency next month.  He said that is where all of his attention is focused.

"First of all I am not underestimating Karepency.  This is his second chance for a world title.  I will be training hard for this fight.  We have to see how the fight goes but I would like to fight in December," Stevenson told BoxingScene.com.
