Next month, Adonis Stevenson and Eleider Alvarez will be featured in a Premier Boxing Champions doubleheader which is going to lead to a year-end battle between the two boxers, according to their mutual promoter Yvon Michel of GYM.
Stevenson (27-1, 22KOs) headlines the card at the Videotron Centre in Quebec, where he defends his WBC light heavyweight crown against dangerous contender Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1, 14KOs).
Alvarez, who is the mandatory challenger to Stevenson's title, will appear in the co-feature against Maximiliano Jorge Gomez (22-5, 9KOs) of Argentina.
Stevenson and Alvarez fight on the same network, share the same promoter and the same adviser in Al Haymon, so the fight should be easy enough to make when they sit at the table to work out the terms.
Alvarez became the mandatory challenger last November at the same venue, when he won a WBC final eliminator with a twelve round split decision over Isaac Chilemba. Stevenson first captured his belt when he moved up in weight and knocked out Chad Dawson the first round back in 2013. Since then he's retained the title six times, including a vicious knockout of Tommy Karpency last September in Toronto.
The World Boxing Council recently ordered Stevenson and Alvarez to face each other, after they conclude their upcoming obligations.
Stevenson is in with the much tougher opponent in Williams (20-1, 14KOs), who pulled off back to back spectacular knockout victories with Umberto Savigne and Edwin Rodriguez back in April.
Alvarez's opponent Gomez won his last four bouts after getting stopped by German prospect Dominc Boesel in eight rounds in September of 2015. The four wins he racked up have all taken place in Argentina and against very limited competition.
