Earlier today in Warsaw, Poland, a press conference was held to to announce the Polish "fight of the century” between heavyweight veteran Andrew Golota and IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek.
'Adamek invited me to dance, so I could not well refuse' – the evidently relaxed Golota (41), four-time challenger for the heavyweight championship of the world, was saying about the October event. 'One shouldn't really box at my age, I'd rather be 12-13 years younger. Still, Bernard Hopkins is 44, so I still have everything ahead of me.
Adamek seemed more tightly wound.
'I was always a warrior, and shall remain a warrior. If anything changes about that, I'll be quitting this business. I'm going to win against Golota, and I'm going to win against Hopkins next January', the IBF junior heavyweight champion announced.
'Yeah, sure!', was Golota's ironic riposte. 'I weigh in at 270 pounds, but at my age you usually gain weight. Adamek is a regular powerhouse, weighing in at as much as 200 pounds…'
When asked whether there is any 'bad blood' between Adamek and him, Golota quipped with a smile: 'I love the guy.'
'I don't love him, since he's male, and I'm Roman Catholic,' was Adamek's response.
The Golota – Adamek fight will take place on October 24 in Lodz. The event will be produced by the Polsat television network.
