Former champion Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28KOs) is threatening not to fight on August 24th against Willbeforce Shihepo in Scherwin, Germany. According to reports, Abraham is unhappy with the purse being offered by his promoter, Sauerland Event, and the two-division beltholder wants more money.
"If Sauerland Event does not reach an agreement with my lawyer, I will not box....neither on August 24th or later on. I do not need to continue my boxing career, and I can finish it right now. Athletes should be treated fairly," Abraham stated.
The promoter's hands might be tied on this one, because a source told SportBox that ARD, the network broadcasting the August event, is far more interested in, showcasing the headliner, Jürgen Braehmer, than the upcoming fight of Abraham. More than likely the network is not offering a big fee to pick up King Arthur's next fight.
Abraham was stopped on four rounds by Robert Stieglitz in March.
